On the evening of March 10, 2020, our beloved mother went peacefully to be with her Lord.

Bernice was one of 16 children born to Charles and Mary Duncan. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, she grew up poor but blessed to have the relationships that come with being in a large family.  She worked many jobs in her young life and with the outbreak of WWII, she worked as Rosie the Riveter, one of many women who worked in factories and shipyards during the war, welding and helping to produce munitions and war supplies.

It was during this time she met the love of her life, Duane Dockins, a handsome young marine whose ship was docked in Portland.  They were married in June of 1947 and remained a dedicated twosome, celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary on June 27, 2018, until the passing of Duane in March of 2019.  They spent the first few years together living in the small farming town of Clyde, Kansas.  In 1952 they moved to Oregon and soon after they started their family of 2 daughters and 2 sons.

Bernice spent her entire life as a homemaker and took pride in always putting her family first.  She was known for her home cooking learned from her Polish mother and grandmother.  She loved to bake and was the one everyone came to when they needed a cake for a special occasion, as she decorated the beautifully.  She enjoyed working in the garden, puzzles, Bingo and country music.  One of her prized possessions was a picture she had taken with Vince Gill.  She was the glue that kept her family close and felt it was her greatest accomplishment.  She will be missed by all who knew her for her kindness, generosity, and loving ways.

She is survived by her children: Darla Bauer of Newport, Sharon Dockins of South Beach, Steve Dockins of Philomath, and Joe (Shelly) Dockins of Eddyville; grandchildren Michael, Melissa, Jace, Derik, Brice, Kelly, Matt, Taylor, and Triston; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister in law Julia Harper of Beaver City, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Duncan; husband of 71 years Duane Dockins; and 15 siblings.
