Pamela June Wedekind, 64, of Waldport, Oregon passed away on October 8, 2009 after her second battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends in her home for her last days with us.
She was born December 24, 1944 to Harold and Elaine Snyder in Seattle, Washington and has one younger sister, Debbie. She graduated from Bothell High School in the top 10% of her class. Pam was a member of the high school choir and was also a song-leader. In 1965 Pam married Jerry Wedekind in Bothell, Washington and moved to the Oregon Coast in 1969 to be near her parents. Pam and Jerry had two children Jeff and Heidi. During her many years on the Coast, Pam and her husband helped run the family seashell and campground business, Sea Perch, in Yachats, Oregon. She opened up her own gift shop, Sea Rose around 1989, until its closing 17 years later.
Pam had many interests, she deeply loved her friends and family, cooking/baking, drumming, music, antiques, birds, shopping, trips to Alaska and Hawaii, babies, animals, flowers, games, beach combing, poker/cards, computer surfing, and shopping. Most of all, Pam adored her family, and her two beautiful granddaughters who referred to her as “Papa Pam”. She was close with all of her family members and many, many wonderful friends. Pam had the most beautiful voice, and shared it with only a few over the years. Pam also had the best sense of humor, and loved being the mother of a very comical son.
She belonged to a local drumming group for the past 10 years. This was something very special to Pam, and she would be happy to know she has inspired her family to start a drumming group in Ketchikan. Another one of Pam’s joys was volunteering at the Lincoln County Children’s Advocacy Center. One of her favorite past times was buying and selling antiques and treasuresfor her space in the Purple Pelican in Florence, Oregon. She also enjoyed her many trips to movies, concerts, and meals with her girlfriends. Pam loved living with Jerry in their peaceful home on the Alsea River.
Pam touched and inspired so many people, and lived her life with no boundaries. She was accepting of everyone and everything around her, and lived life like there was no tomorrow. Pam will always be remembered for her card giving, she never missed a birthday, anniversary or a just because occasion. Pammie had a way of making every person who crossed her path feel special, and always found the good in people. It was apparent through both her battles with cancer that she had several guardian angels, and you know who you are. The world would be a better place, if we all lived our lives like Pam did.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Snyder, and is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jerry, of Waldport, Oregon; son Jeff (Paula) Wedekind of Ketchikan, Alaska; daughter, Heidi (Alan) Bengaard also of Ketchikan, Alaska; mother, Elaine Snyder of Florence, Oregon; sister, Debbie Petricek of Portland, Oregon; her two granddaughters, Shea Wedekind and Josie Welk, both of Ketchikan; her two sister-in-laws and their families; and her many cousins in Ketchikan, Alaska.
On a most beautiful day, like beautiful Pam, a celebration of life was held at the Wedekind home on the Alsea River on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Her family will spread Pam’s ashes at a later date on the River and in Knudson Cove in Ketchikan near her children.
