Steven Clark Williams, 46, of Newport, OR, died September 16 of brain cancer at his home.

Steve was born in Santa Barbara, California on October 3, 1962 to Kermit and Ann Williams. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Planning at Humboldt State University. In 1988, he moved to Newport, and in 1989, he married Lorie Black. They had 2 sons, Logan and Aaron.

Steve worked as a planner for Lincoln County for many years, before accepting a job as a coastal resource specialist with Oregon Parks and Recreation. For the past four years, he worked for the Department of Land Conservation and Development in the Coastal Management Program.

Steve had a love of the natural environment, especially the Oregon Coast. He was an avid kite boarder and surfer, and could often be found in the water on a windy day. Steve also loved snowboarding, mountain boarding, and land sailing.

Steve was an accomplished musician, playing tuba, trombone and bass guitar. He played with many bands in the Newport area, including the Yachats Big Band, whom he played with for 18 years.

The family would like to thank the many friends who gave so freely of their love and support while Steve fought his illness.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Kermit Williams.

Steve is survived by his mother, Ann, (Santa Barbara, CA), wife, Lorie, and sons Aaron, of Newport, and Logan , now attending college in Cambridge, MA; Brother, Bob Williams (Napa, CA); sisters, Berta Money (Paul) of Sligo, Ireland, and Sarah Williams (Anchorage, AK).
