Opal Elizabeth Howry

January 24, 1937 ~ March 23, 2018 (age 81)

Opal Elizabeth (Lancaster) Howry, 81 passed away peacefully at her home in Toledo, Oregon of cancer.
She was born in Portland, Oregon on January 24, 1937 to James Arthur Lancaster and Opal (Murphey) Lancaster. Opal was raised in Logsden, Oregon with her brothers, James Arthur; Jr, Leroy (Roy) Frances and Donald Ray. They grew up without allot of material things, but their house was always filled with love.
She attended Siletz Elementary through High school and graduated in 1955. Immediately following graduation, Opal joined the Navy and became a hospital corpsman and was stationed at the Bethesda, Maryland Naval Hospital, where she stayed for 6 to 7 more years after she left the Navy.
Opal moved to Merced, California and married Richard (Dick) Bailey, they had 3 children together; George-Ann Marie, Joseph Scott and Robert James. While living in California she started riding motorcycles with Dick and the Merced Motorcycle Club. She loved travelling on her ‘65 Triumph Bonneville. Together they rode through California and Idaho and also making trips home to see her family Oregon. In 1971 she attained her pilot’s license while flying a tri pacer airplane.
When Dick passed away in April of ‘72, Opal returned home to Logsden with her family. She married Ray Howry of Toledo and together they had a daughter; Raeleen Ann.
Opal loved her family! While the kids were growing up she enjoyed volunteering with the schools, entertaining exchange students (altogether about 8 from various different countries), family hunting trips and traveling with her family.
After Ray passed way in February of ‘93, Opal began traveling with her cousin and friend Annabelle Loomis. Together, the 2 women went on many adventures and made it to more than 43 different states during multiple different trips and a cruise to the Bahamas.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed many hobbies including family get-togethers, traveling, long car rides, rock hounding, researching genealogy, sewing, painting ceramics, storm watching, the ocean and talking with new people and old friends.
Survivors include her brother James (Carol) Lancaster; daughters: George-Ann (Jerry) Gilbreath and Raeleen (Kevin) Lindsted; sons: Scott (Jennifer) Bailey and Rob Bailey; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, James and Opal Lancaster; brothers: Leroy and Donald Lancaster; husbands: Richard Bailey and Ray Howry.
Graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Siletz on Friday, March 30th. Celebration of life pot luck at the Toledo Elks Lodge on Saturday, March 31st at 1:00 pm.
